Wedding reception entertainment

Ideas on how to keep your wedding guests entertained while you're having those all-important photographs taken

Singing waiters are a great way of entertaining your guests during the banquet

When considering entertainment for their wedding couples often neglect the earlier part of the day.  It isn’t just the evening reception that your guests will need to be kept amused and it is arguably more important to keep your guests entertained throughout the day when they’re more likely to be waiting around whilst you’re off having photographs taken.

There are plenty of options to choose from but it is important that you research what is right for your day. We’ve provided a few popular ideas from the 2015 wedding season so far to give you a head start.

Tattoo stations

Temporary tattoos have been back in the fashion spotlight since Chanel launched the Les Trompe L'Oeil de Chanel Temporary Skin Art campaign nearly 5 years ago. This has been gradually influencing the world of weddings too with couples opting for a variation in designs as fun wedding favour ideas for their guests. This year, however, we’ve welcomed the temporary tattoo station onto the wedding entertainment scene.

This simple idea is proving to be a huge hit and offers guests something a little bit different. Pick from a range of designs or create a bespoke wedding tattoo unique to your day and let the attendants on hand ink your guests.

The idea of hiring a celebrity look-alike isn’t for everybody but it is a good way of guests breaking the ice and provides an interesting twist to your reception. From Johnny Depp charming the ladies to Manuel serving your drinks, you have plenty of options to choose from that will fit in with the rest of your day. Guests will certainly enjoy taking a selfie with their favourite A-lister!

A unique and fun form of entertainment is the caricaturist. Have an artist sketch a comic likeness of your guest in roughly 5 – 10 minutes and they’ll have a keepsake from the day and will talk about it for the rest of the night! Other guests will get curious and watch the caricaturist work his magic.

Trends come and go but these seem to be here for the long-run.

Sweetie tables
Appealing to the inner child in everyone, the sweetie cart trend is still going strong after nearly 2 years. Display your favourites treats in glass jars or bowls with scoops and provide cute striped sweetie bags with personalised monogram stickers to seal them up for your guests to take home and enjoy!

Vintage trikes

Last summer saw the emergence of the vintage trike. We had ice-cream trikes, Pimms trikes, lemonade trikes and crepe trikes to name but a few. This year… this list has gotten longer.
With the vintage vibe still being a strong influence on the UK wedding scene, the food and drink trike doesn’t appear to be dying out any time soon.

We’re not talking the ‘pull a rabbit out of a hat’ type of magic here; many modern magicians perform illusions and close-up personal magic tricks that are guaranteed to leave your guests utterly speechless. This is a great form of entertainment during your drinks reception or during your wedding breakfast; going round your guests table to table to ensure nobody misses a thing!

Singing waiters

Add an element of surprise and hire singing waiters to serenade your guests during the meal. Posing as real staff dressed in the same uniform and working alongside the rest of the team, your guests won’t suspect a thing until they spontaneously leap into song. Repertoire can be selected by yourselves beforehand so you can be sure the music suites your taste.
