A Stunning Jewish Wedding at Botleys Mansion for Jen and Howard

Jen and Howard from Brighton celebrated a truly gorgeous Jewish wedding with 156 guests at Botleys Mansion.

About the Couple

Jen and Howard met through mutual friends and were together for a year before moving in into their first flat together. After buying a dog, followed by a house, the couple realised that life was great and they felt ready to take their relationship to the next level.

They had planned a trip to Copenhagen but little did Jen know that Howard had been secretly planning a proposal. He had chosen and re-designed a beautiful ring with his mum who is a jeweller.

Christmas markets, twinkly lights and mulled wine are all of Jen’s favourite things, so Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen was the perfect spot for Howard to pop the question. He knew that Jen wouldn’t want him to propose in front of a crowd so he took her to a quiet area next to a carousel. (The couple had their first kiss by a carousel in Brighton so it was quite a fitting place to do it). He got down on one knee and blurted it out and the rest is history.

Brighton to Botleys

The excited, newly engaged couple discovered Botleys Mansion during the weeks following their romantic European proposal. They drove to the luxury Surrey wedding venue from their home town of Brighton and decided there and then that no venue could compare. The fact that the venue could cater for their guest list of 156 with ease, and that the glass-roofed atrium oozed clean, modern décor throughout, made choosing Botleys Mansion an easy decision. The couple were also looking for a wedding venue with lovely gardens, a stylish vibe and enough space to have guests stay over night if need be. It was the first and only wedding venue that the couple went to see and the fact that Botleys Mansion features a huge painting of a carousel in the hallway was the icing on the cake. The couple visited the venue for a second time and chose a future June date, giving them 18 months to plan their lavish Jewish wedding in Surrey.

Wedding Attire

Jen looked truly stunning on the day of her wedding. Her chosen wedding dress style was a classic A-line with a high neck, low back and full skirt with pretty pleats. The design was the complete opposite of what she thought she’d don down the aisle, but after having tried on so many dresses, she finally found one that she felt right wearing.

When it came to dressing her four special bridesmaids, Jen took her best girls up to London for a shopping day out. They visited a couple of different shops but with no luck, ended up in a pub. They then stumbled upon David’s Bridal where they found the perfect, versatile style in lilac that the girls all loved.

On her wedding day, Jen wore a pair of comfortable wedding shoes by Rachel Simpson and make up artist Elisa comes highly recommended by the bride and her bridal party who all felt perfectly relaxed as they were being made up for the big moment.

Howard bought his suit from the Richard James concession in Selfridges. He’d previously tried on a dozen charcoal and grey options and was adamant that he didn't want to wear blue or navy but after he was convinced to try on a navy style, he realised that the colour suited him and the deal was done. The best man and ushers wore stylish suits from Next with silver ties and palm tree patterned pocket squares.

Luxury Wedding Flowers

Jen and Howard spent months exchanging emails with their wedding florist Sue Arran. Jen loves flowers and Sue went above and beyond to make sure that the floral décor looked sensational on the big day.

The couple discussed using Peonies, Cafe o lait Dahlia, Peach Stocks, Green Amaranth, Hypericum berries, Roses Romantic Antike/Vuvuzela/Vendela, Spray Roses, Astilbe, Veronicas, Lisianthus Falda Apricot and white, and Succulents throughout the venue. Sue built the traditional Jewish Chuppah herself and covered it in flowers and foliage which looked stunning. After the ceremony, the Chuppah was placed behind the top table during the wedding reception; the ultimate backdrop.

The couple wanted to enhance the main stair case leading down in to the glass-roofed atrium at Botleys Mansion One of the main features of Botleys is the staircase so Jen asked Sue to decorate the bannisters with foliage and flowers and together, they thought to put glass lanterns on the steps at the bottom and along the aisle.

The buttonholes were Succulents and Hypericum berries.

The Big Day: Sunday 18th June, 2017

The couple had a Jewish ceremony at 3pm on Sunday 18th June, 2018. They had invited their Rabbi up from Brighton and Jen walked down the long aisle in The Atrium to ‘Feels Like Home’ by Chantal Kreiazuk. As it was Father’s Day Jen felt extra special to be able to able to walk down the aisle on the arm of her lovely father.

During the ceremony the couple had 7 blessings and chose 7 people who were important to them both to come and read their blessing in either English or Hebrew. Each reader then poured wine in to a little cup which the couple then drank from.

After a memorable drinks reception and some private, romantic photographs together with their photographer Justin De Souza, the couple and their guests were invited back down in to The Atrium to enjoy a very special and super delicious banquet. Jen had created their table plan by covering a gold frame with moss and gluing succulent plants to each corner. The names of the wedding reception tables reflected the couple’s love of dogs. Each table was named after a dog breed and on tables, each guests’ name was laser cut and painted gold to add a touch of glam to the reception tables. Low urn-style pedestal bowls were filled with stunning flowers for the centrepieces and old turquoise glass medicine bottles were bought from the Ardingly antiques market to place on windowsills around the room to add extra colour to day.

Jen and Howard consider themselves to be a foodie couple and therefore wanted to create their own menu combining Mediterranean and Turkish cuisines. Bijou’s expert team of chefs worked closely with the couple to ensure that their wedding banquet menu expectations were met.

It was designed by Georgia's Cakes and was the perfect focal point in The Atrium throughout the wedding breakfast.

Dancing to a live band in the evening was a highlight for the newlywed couple and their guests. The Fountain Wing was where the couple's first took place and sparkly dance floor was full for most of the night.

The newlyweds are planning a luxury honeymoon to Borneo and Malaysia and advise couples not to sweat too much over the little details on the big day.

Bride Jen said: “Make sure you set aside enough time for photos and really think about the shots you want to get prior to the day. Ask your friends for their opinions and help, but make sure the decisions you are making are your own and definitely what YOU want for your day. And, try to take in every moment, watch your guests from afar and don’t get so drunk that you forget the day!”
