Four Seasons at Notley Abbey: Winter

A styled wedding shoot at Notley Abbey in Buckinghamshire, based around winter

Winter wedding decor inspiration at Notley Abbey country house wedding venue in Buckinghamshire

Winter weddings in the UK are magical; from the crisp, cold weather that can provide some wondrous wedding photography to the decorative ideas that you can use in order to transform your wedding venue into a winter wonderland. As part of our ‘Four Seasons at Notley Abbey’ styled photo shoot session, we couldn’t help but fall in love with sparkling and uber-glamorous winter wedding décor, twinkling lights and a touch of festive glitter! The day was styled by Ambience Venue Styling Buckinghamshire and captured beautifully by Laura Anderson Photography.

The Venue

Notley Abbey is a home from home country house wedding venue based in Buckinghamshire and is truly magical in winter; from the frosty, tree-lined drive way that approaches the historic building to the stunning architecture that is apparent wherever you look.  The wedding venue is cool, light and breezy in the summer but cosy and comforting in during the winter months.

A step inside Notley Abbey during a cold winter’s day and you’re instantly warmed with the heat of roaring fire places. Wintry canapés and perhaps some mulled wine could be the ultimate welcome for your guests after they’ve witnessed your ‘I dos’ in the Abbot's Hall.

Winter Wedding Venue Inspiration at Notley Abbey

Notley Abbey in Buckinghamshire is a warm and romantic wedding venue, ideal for cosy house parties during the winter months. We took advantage of the fire places within the house and decorated them with stunning floral arrangements, candles and votives; simple yet stunning details that can introduce a wintry theme to a mantle piece beautifully.

For the winter wedding reception tables in the Monks’ Refectory, eye-catching, silver-sequined table runners, festive pine cones and glitter-tipped feathers were used to style the look. Square favour boxes covered in silver glitter and miniature vases with single cream rose heads added a touch of festive glamour to the tables. We draped the chiavari chairs with plush, cream chiffon covers with a fancy frill and for the table numbers, chic white photo frames were used as an additional accessory.

A large center piece featuring silver-sprayed pine cones, a cream church candle, woodland style foliage and fresh cream roses fitted in with our winter wonderland theme beautifully. Votives, candelabras and twinkly lights lend themselves perfectly to a winter wedding and with the chandeliers hanging from the high ceilings in the Monks’ Refectory, you’ll have a guaranteed touch of glamour added to your day if you choose to tie the knot at Notley Abbey!

Winter Wedding Venue Styling: What We Loved

We loved that Notley Abbey offers couples a change of scenery for the four different parts of a wedding day. Start by getting married in the Abbot’s Hall which features a fabulously huge open fire place, followed by cosy reception drinks spread across two different areas at the front of the house, both of which feature lovely open fire places as well. Then, after a bit of fresh air and a fairy-lit walk into the Monks’ Refectory, you’re greeted with a real wow factor as the barn-style doors are opened to reveal your potential winter wonderland theme. After a personally chosen wedding breakfast meal and the cutting of a winter themed wedding cake, the newlywed couple and their guests can dance the night away in the historic grandeur of Notley Abbey.

It's easy to incorporate a winter wedding theme at Notley Abbey and our wedding planning management team would be delighted to share tips and advice when it comes to creative styling and the endless possibilities throughout the wedding venue.
