Four Seasons at Notley Abbey: Autumn

A styled wedding shoot at Notley Abbey in Buckinghamshire, based around autumn

Inspiration for an autumn wedding at Notley Abbey historic wedding venue based in Buckinghamshire

If colourful leaves, rustic glamour and a palette of rich, deep tones to decorate your day sound wonderful to you then consider getting married during the autumn months. We teamed up with Ambience Venue Styling Buckinghamshire and Laura Anderson Photography to create a styled wedding shoot at Notley Abbey in Buckinghamshire, based around an autumnal wedding theme and it came out looking truly magnificent.

The Venue

Notley Abbey is a dream, country house wedding venue which lends itself beautifully to a wedding in any season, but autumn in particular. As the Buckinghamshire wedding venue is approached by a tree-lined driveway and surrounded by incredible, lush woodland, you can only imagine how incredible it all looks once the leaves start to change colour. The setting is just ideal and your photographer will have immense fun taking images of you both inside and out at this stunning venue if you choose it for your special day.

Our autumnal-inspired wedding photo shoot took place inside the large, open and airy Monks’ Refectory at Notley Abbey. The barn-style doors to the wedding venue welcome guests from the Cloisters Garden in to the beautiful room which can adapt itself perfectly to whatever wedding style or theme you choose.

Autumnal Styled Wedding Shoot

For our autumnal set, a colour combo of rich purples and elegant greys were chosen. A chiffon table runner over a white table cloth ran down the center of each table, adding vibrancy and sophistication to the autumn style. Light, chiffon table runners can make the world of difference to a plain white table cloth and is a relatively affordable way to add a touch of glam and colour to the room. The reception tables were intricately decorated with colourful napkins, sparkly glass charger plates with a touch of gold, quirky place settings and luxe chair covers. Different shades of the same colour tie in beautifully together and a stand-out centerpiece could truly transform the look of your reception tables. In addition to your accessories, fresh fruit is a fun way to inject a bit of character in to your decorative style; for our autumn tables fresh plums were chosen due to their complementary shade of purple, but if you think about it, you can use fresh fruit to decorate your tables in almost any season.

For the centerpiece, a large urn bursting with seasonal blooms was not only eye-catching, but worked really well in the cool, stone-walled Monks’ Refectory. The barn-style wedding venue has floor to wall windows at each end, therefore letting in floods of natural light; ideal for any season.

Additional accessories for our autumnal tables included bottles of red wine and special goblets for the bride and groom. At Bijou the in-house catering team can work with you to create the ultimate seasonal wedding menu for you and your guest to enjoy; they can also recommend a selection of wines that will complement the food perfectly.

What We Loved about our Autumn Styled Wedding Shoot

This theme, out of all four styled shoots that we did at Notley Abbey, was by far the quirkiest and offered a sense of fun, style and glamour combined. Each place setting had an Alice in Wonderland theme as well as a key, tied with a luxurious grey velvet ribbon. Be sure to let your imagination run wild when it comes to choosing a theme for your wedding day decor.

We also loved how perfectly the rustic vibe of the Monks’ Refectory complements an autumnal wedding theme.
