Tell us a little about yourself?
I started shooting weddings in 2003 and have loved being part of such a wonderful, happy day for lots of couples. Over the last 13 years I have photographed at some of the most wonderful venues in the UK and the Bijou Venues are certainly amongst these. I have never given up on my own personal learning and development, having studied and worked towards my Associateship in Weddings with the British Institute of Professional Photographers in November 2015.
On a personal note I live with my husband Tim and our gorgeous Bassett Hound Oscar. I love walking – particularly in the Lake District (and would so love to shoot a wedding on one of the lakes)! I also love Formula 1 motor racing and spending time with our lovely friends – nothing better than the local chinese restaurant or one of our many cosy pubs!
How would you describe your wedding photography style and what makes you unique?
I find it quite difficult to describe my style as my photography will represent my couples and the day they have planned. From the fun and laughter of the bridal preparation through to the ceremony and reception - everyone is unique. I love the beauty of a church ceremony, the intimate hotel ceremony and the fun, summer outside ceremony. I particularly like shooting unique wedding party shots and taking a little time out of the drinks reception to take some beautiful, natural bride and groom shots. My uniqueness is me – it is so much more than taking photographs, it is creating moments that are timeless and will make you smile in years to come.
How would you describe your working style?
I work quickly and efficiently and I like to blend into your day. The biggest compliment I am often given is that the bride, groom and guests forgot I was there! I am more than happy to assist in the organising of your day to ensure any group shots that you request are covered to allow you time to enjoy every minute of your day with your family and friends. Apart from this I want to observe and capture the feel of your day. I must admit my favourite part of the day is when I can take the couple to one side for some natural, fun and lightly directed photographs.
Do you shoot digitally or with film? Or both?
I shoot with a digital camera.
What type of equipment do you use?
Canon – I carry 2 cameras with me with 2 more in the car, various lenses and a couple of reflectors and portable lights for a few more dramatic shots.
Do you shoot in colour and black and white?
I shoot in colour, but also personally retouch images to create beautiful black and white, chocolate and specially enhanced images.
What can you offer couples or can they customise the package with you?
All options can be customised to suit your day. I offer half or full day coverage but usually I’m there for bridal preparation through to just after the first dance. All your images will be ready within 7-10 days, uploaded onto your own personal, password protected site via my website. They will then be delivered to you on a usb stick in a presentation box. You then have the choice of selecting an album and together we work through the many options available.
Do you include an engagement shoot?
This can be included as part of your album package. If you decide to not include an album then of course an engagement shoot can be purchased. I love engagement shoots and they are an excellent opportunity to get to know you better and feel comfortable in front of the camera. I tend to use National Trust venues, parks, woodlands and the seafront.
How long after the wedding will the couple receive their proofs?
How far in advance should couples book you?
What information do you need from the couple before the wedding day?
I just need to know locations, timings, group shots and a run through of your key family and wedding party names. Everything is covered when we meet so that we are all totally happy with the arrangements before the big day.
What are you favourite trends?
I really tend to not follow trends. I prefer to present you with a true reflection of your day in strong colours as well as beautiful black and whites and specially enhanced images. I want to capture those moments, the look, the laugh and the tears, that will be treasured for generations.
What are you expecting see more mainstream/more common in the next year or two?
I see new styles of albums available all the time. My main album manufacturer leads the way in offering the most stunning options with new additions becoming available all the time. I believe bride and grooms will look for images and albums that are timeless and will move away from the vintage feel we have seen in recent years.
If you were getting married, how would you choose your wedding photographer?
I would start by looking at the recommended photographers for my venue and I would then like to see wedding albums and whole weddings from the photographer. A lot would go on meeting with the photographer and how comfortable I felt with them – bearing in mind that the photographer will be with you on the day longer than any other supplier. I have seen many times how well it works to engage a range of recommended suppliers for a venue – they know each other and they know the venue staff and this always makes your day run more smoothly.
