Tell us a little about yourself?
Award winning ‘Wedding Photographer of the Year’ Keith Appleby heads up our team of five unique talents. We all share one common goal - to provide our clients with images that will truly exceed their expectations. We capture the personalities of everyone present so intuitively that you will barely notice our presence, yet the photographs will show that somehow we were everywhere, not missing a single treasured moment. A former advertising and fashion photographer, Keith and his team merge all these disciplines together and manage to pull off the impossible… to provide their clients with a perfect mix of images from their day.
How would you describe your wedding photography style and what makes you unique?
Unobtrusive, discreet and relaxed. We understand that you want a great set of photos from your day with a minimum of interference. We shoot in a documentary and reportage style without forgetting that some fuss-free family group shots are an important element, too.
How would you describe your working style?
Our style is relaxed and spontaneous and whatever atmosphere you seek at your wedding we will capture. We do not have a 'one formula fits all' approach and we treat every wedding as the unique occasion that it is. We will take as many photographs as there are opportunities - some candid, some classic. We work calmly, quickly and unobtrusively ensuring that your day remains exactly that - yours! We love taking pictures of people having fun and believe that our enthusiasm and sense of humour comes across in our pictures. We aim to fit in as a 'guest' with a camera rather than an outsider.
Do you shoot digitally or with film? Or both?
Digitally. There is a myth that somehow film is ‘better’ or more ‘artistic’. This is a complete misconception often used by some photographers to promote their ‘artistic’ abilities. Whether a photograph is artistic or not depends on the eye and skill of the photographer and not whether the image was captured on film or digital. Believe it or not those photographers who shoot on film actually convert the final images back to digital, which seems to defeat the purpose.
What type of equipment do you use?
We use professional Canon & Nikon 35mm full frame DSLR cameras.
Do you shoot in colour and black and white?
We shoot in colour and convert a percentage into Black & White.
What can you offer couples? Can they customise the package with you?
We advise couples to take a package with one of our bespoke designed storybook albums as it will be a magnificent keepsake and last for generations. Sadly there is a trend today for couples to forgo the album and choose a package with just the high-res digital files as their primary keepsake. We believe that this is short-term thinking and not the best way to preserve those treasured memories. Our Wedding Storybooks are simply the most elegant, stylish and durable keepsakes available anywhere and will become a timeless expression of your love.
Do you include an engagement shoot?
Engagement shoots are available as an extra.
How long after the wedding will the couple receive their proofs?
The images are available in our secure online client area usually within 10 days of the wedding. A hardback preview book with all the images from your day will follow soon after. How far in advance should couples book you? The earlier the better!
What information do you need from the couple before the wedding day?
Each couple who book us will complete our basic booking form which includes all the information we require.
What are you favourite trends?
I like the soft and whimsical look of off-the-shoulder wedding dresses. Whilst you may want to cover your shoulders at a formal ceremony this can be presented in a classical way that adds a nice twist away from the stiff and starchy meringue style of bridal dress.
What are you expecting see more mainstream/more common in the next year or two?
The use of Drones to capture aerial shots. Currently this is primarily used by videographers at weddings, but I expect this to become more common as an ‘added extra’ for still photographs too.
If you were getting married, how would you choose your wedding photographer?
Initially from a website and/or recommendation from a friend or wedding planner or venue manager. Thereafter you should ‘feel’ something when you look at the photographs. If they touch an emotion in you then you’re on the right track. Try and meet your photographer beforehand to check that there is a connection and that he or she will fit in with your plans for the day.
