Tell us a little about yourself?
Simply Swing is a professional, experienced and incredibly entertaining wedding swing band specialist. Exclusively chosen for Olympic Opening Night in Canary Wharf as well as featured in ‘Bride Magazine’ 2015, Simply Swing has a wealth of experience and a flexible attitude to fulfill all your wedding entertainment needs. Our classic 5 or 6 piece swing band incorporates smooth vocals and saxophone to get guests up and dancing, jiving, bopping and enjoying the thrill of live contemporary swing music all night long. We also offer a DJ service between sets and for when the live band ends. If you’re looking for music for earlier in the day, our pianist, rat pack singer or solo saxophonist can be booked independently for ceremony music, reception drinks or dinner music.
How would you describe your style and what makes you unique?
Simply Swing’s level of musicianship is what’s truly unique about us. Our band comprises professional musicians who’ve worked with artists such as Bette Midler, Kylie Minogue, Van Morrison, Natalie Cole, Shirley Bassey, Gregory Porter and The London Symphony Orchestra. As such, we can turn our hand to any musical style with ease but we are essentially a Swing Band performing a fun and lively repertoire mix of Bossa Nova, Swing, Rat Pack, Mambo, Boogaloo, Doo-Wop, and Jump Jive. However, we understand that for the 21st century bride and groom a modern spin is required and we incorporate songs such as “Brown Eyed Girl” and “Happy” together with other classic pop into our mix.
Can couples come and see you perform live before booking you?
Yes, of course. We do a number of public gigs per year especially for this purpose. Details can be found at our website www.simplyswing.co.uk/events
Do you take requests?
Do you have a dress code?
Normally it’s black tie or all black. We always look smart. How long is your set? 3 x 45 minutes or 2 x 65 minutes (or the equivalent) spread over a 3 hour period. We are very flexible and this can be adjusted to suit the couples’ specific requirements.
What are you expecting see more mainstream/more common in the next year or two?
We’ve been noticing a return to classic elegance over the last year or two and we expect that to continue. Couples have been requesting updated renditions of wedding classics so instead of Etta James’s soulful “At Last,” for example, they might ask us to play that same song keeping the acoustic version by Jason Mraz in mind. We believe couples are looking for a timeless band with a modern twist.
If you were getting married, what would be your idea of ultimate entertainment?
We would say a Swing Band every time because the music is timeless and cross-generational. Also, it’s not too loud so guests who wish to just chat can do so, without having to leave the room!
