Natalie and Alex - Notley Abbey

Natalie and Alex had a Game of Thrones themed wedding celebration at Notley Abbey on the 7th April, 2015

About the couple
Natalie and Alex met at Bodega Bar in Watford whilst Natalie was on a night out with the girls. After a whirlwind romance, Alex proposed down on one knee in Scotland at the top of Craigendarroch Hill overlooking the mountains. He had chosen a perfect engagement ring and asked if Natalie would make him the happiest man in the world. She, of course, said YES!

The preparation
Natalie’s stunning wedding dress was designed by Sincerity and featured a sweetheart neckline and cap sleeves. Natalie teamed her gown up with an elegant veil featuring sparkly diamanté made and designed by Natalie’s mother-in-law. She also wore a pretty silver headband and a necklace from Tiffany & Co. bought by Alex and given to Natalie as a wedding gift. The bride also received a Pandora bracelet from a friend as a wedding present which she wore on the day. Her sparkly silver sandals were bought on the high street.

Natalie wore soft and subtle make-up on her wedding day and when it came to her wedding hair style she wore it up in a twisty plait, clipped with a silver headband; it looked simply gorgeous.

The theme
Natalie and Alex’s unique wedding theme was Henry VIII meets Game of thrones castle. Their inspiration and wedding ideas came from Game of Thrones, The Tudors, visits to stately homes and castles along with the one and only PINTEREST! Their wedding colour scheme was different shades of pink and sage green; perfect for a wedding in the spring.

The bridal party
Natalie chose four of her best friends to be bridesmaids and they each wore baby pink coloured dresses that the bride chose herself.

Alex wore a navy blue, slim fit suit with a waistcoat that matched, a pink tie and brown shoes. He also wore a silver pocket watch that Natalie bought him as a very special wedding day gift. Alex’s best man and ushers wore the same blue suit but without the waistcoat.

The venue
Natalie and Alex looked at three wedding venues in total when they were doing their search, as they were looking for the perfect venue due to their love of Henry V111 and history. They fell in love with Notley Abbey due to its history, grounds and beautiful barn. Plus, the fact that Bijou offered use of an online planner made organising a wedding fun and easy.

The day
Natalie and Alex said their I do’s in the Abbot’s Hall at Notley Abbey. The couple’s ultimate favourite “Einaudi” played as the bride walked down the aisle. The first reading was a poem from the bride’s closest friends about the bride and groom called “I do, I do, I do”, which had been adapted to suit the couple. The second reading was written by the bride’s dearest and extremely talented friend Sara Symons about “Love”. The groom’s best friend and opera singer, Charlotte, sung “Kiss from a Rose” by Seal and “Song Bird” by Eva Cassidy as the register was signed. “Happy” by Pharrell Williams played as the couple walked down the aisle. Plus, at the entrance to the reception in the Monks’ Refectory, Game of Thrones music and epic movie inspired music was played.

The details
Natalie and Alex commissioned Jo Bromich when it came to ordering their wedding flowers. They chose a theme of pink and white roses, hydrangea, peonies and tulips. The grooms wore pink roses in their button holes and on the reception tables they had large silver candelabras in the centre of each table with an arrangement of flowers around the base with an additional wrap of flowers climbing up the candelabras; they looked wonderful.

The reception
Newlyweds Natalie and Alex, along with their 100 wedding guests enjoyed a wedding breakfast menu of butternut squash soup to start, followed by pork with creamed potatoes and crackling. For dessert everyone enjoyed sticky toffee pudding and pink and white wedding cupcakes that had been purchased from M&S.
Following the Game of Thrones wedding theme, each guest had their own place card laid on the table with SER or LADY in front of their name, table names were themed with Game of Thrones characters and as favours, Natalie and Alex filled hessian bags with small ‘dragon’ eggs.

The evening
A further 50 guests joined Natalie and Alex to celebrate their marriage on the evening of April 7th. The couples danced their first dance to Sexy Love by Neyo and their friend Ryan organised the disco which kept guests dancing all night.

The honeymoon
Natalie and Alex celebrated their marriage by heading off on an all-inclusive trip to Mexico. They choose the destination together and had an incredible time relaxing in the sun.

When asked if there was any advice they’d give to couples planning their wedding, they said: “Enjoy every minute of it. It truly is the best day of your life!!!”
