Botleys Mansion: History Lesson

Exclusive! An image of Botleys Mansion dating back to the 1800s.

Botleys Mansion is an historic wedding venue that dates back to the 1300's

Our grand, country house wedding venue located in Surrey has quite a few stories to tell!

The history of Botleys dates back to around 1319 where ownership of the Mansion was between either John de Butteley or John Manory of Chertsey before it changed hands several times between Richard Merland, Thomas Pervoche and Henry Wyke circa 1505. King Henry VII lived in what was then known as Botlese Mansion 1541 after having purchased it from a man called Sir Roger Chomeley. The man responsible for the Mansion’s restoration was Joseph Mawbey circa 1763 before the house was home to Robert Gosling and the Gosling family back in 1839.

In the historic image below taken in September 1865, you can see Robert Gosling sitting in his chair looking rather stern, on the steps of Botleys Mansion; his eldest grandson, Robert Cunliff Gosling was the English football captain in 1890s.
