A styled wedding shoot at Notley Abbey in Buckinghamshire, based around a summer-time wedding celebration
It's no surprise to the Bijou team that summer wedding dates get booked up years in advance. With the warmer weather, the option to wear a lighter wedding dress and an array of stunning colour palettes to play with, there’s nothing more beautiful than a stylish summer wedding.
We teamed up with Ambience Venue Styling Buckinghamshire and Laura Anderson Photography to create a styled wedding shoot based around a summer theme. The magnificent, exclusive use wedding venue, Notley Abbey played host to our day and we couldn’t have asked for a more impressive backdrop for our summer inspired collaboration.
Based on the Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire border lies Notley Abbey; a wedding venue rich in both history and grandeur, with a one-of-a-kind approach to hosting wedding celebrations. The tree-lined driveway that leads up to Notley Abbey was planted by the late actress Vivien Leigh, who lived at the house with Laurence Oliver back in 1944. Besides its wonderful history, Notley Abbey features incredible architecture along with a variety of entertaining spaces, offering versatility to suit the style of wedding you’re dreaming of.
During the summer months Notley Abbey is simply ideal for hosting outdoor nuptials or for celebrating post-wedding out on the lawn in front of the house. It is the perfect backdrop to your summer wedding photography and with 9 luxurious bedrooms, an in-house catering team and impeccable service throughout your wedding planning journey, who wouldn’t want to get married at this stunning country house venue?
Styled Wedding Shoot: Summer
Rose gold has been a hugely popular colour when it comes to wedding venue styling in recent years, so we simply had to include it in our summer styled shoot in the Monks’ Refectory at Notley Abbey. A sequined rose gold table cloth was the eye-catching accessory for our summer theme, along with a delightful eucalyptus floral garland running down the center of the table; which not only looked stunning but it graced The Monks’ Refectory with a summery scent. Glass charger plates with gold detailing, floral menus, place cards, rose gold coloured votives and glittery gold table numbers added a touch of class to the summery wedding theme. Graceful pearls on the chair backs of the bride and groom completed this elegant, summer wedding style.
With the warm summer weather, consider decorating the outside of the wedding venue as well as the inside; adding floral touches and fun signs and accessories to outdoor furniture can offer a truly welcoming atmosphere for when your guests arrive. Plus, if you plan on getting married in ‘the nook’ at Notley Abbey then you’ll have an additional space to decorate to your hearts content. Think about hanging jars of hand-picked flowers on the ends of the chairs down the aisle; over the nook a floral garland like we used on the summery reception tables could be ideal.
Summer Styled Shoot: What We Loved
The rustic, stone walls inside the Monks’ Refectory allow you to work with pretty much any colour scheme, but the rose gold sequin table cloths and gold-tipped charger plates looked utterly stunning on the day. The gold, glittery table numbers added a touch of elegance to the scene and when it came to adding glamour, strings of pearls were added to the backs of each chair; a simple way to complete a summer wedding style.
The Monks’ Refectory is airy and cool in the summer, making it not only ideal for your wedding reception, but also a great option if you’ve got larger numbers and wish to host your wedding ceremony there too!
